2020 has certainly been a year for uncertainty, hardship and change. But within all adverse times a new opportunity can found. Urban Troos is a symbol of just that for our Family. As Covid-19 began affecting our own careers a new flame was lit to take action on something new. Originally a creative idea for a passion project turned real family business.
Our mission ~ To bring authentically sourced handmade goods into your home. As we are a family of creatives, travelers and adventure seekers we appreciate a true conversation piece. None of our items are without a story to tell and we are more than excited to begin this journey.
What is the story behind Bogolan Mudcloth?
We source our Bogolan Mudcloth from Western Africa. The fabric is dyed and composed of a thick cotton canvas, spun and woven 100% by hand. A pattern is dyed with fermented mud and other organic dyes. The dyeing technique is 100% organic, free from all kinds of harmful chemicals.
Craftsmen draw symbols on these fabrics to tell traditional stories of the peoples of the region. Formerly used by warriors and hunters for camouflage, Bogolan fabric is used today around the world to illustrate its attachment to African culture.
